SeniorsPlus to visit Norway, Fryeburg

NORWAY/FRYEBURG — SeniorsPlus will be at the Norway and Fryeburg town offices to answer any questions or concerns the community may have about services and resources for older adults and adults with disabilities and their families.

It will be in Norway from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, and in Fryeburg from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28.

These events are free and open to the public. Appointments can be made.

Mental illness class begins

HARRISON — The National Alliance on Mental Illness will lead a free, 12-session educational class for family members of those with serious mental illness.

Coping with a Loved One’s Mental Illness will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 16 to Dec. 9.

Arts, crafts at Universalist Church

NORWAY — The First Universalist Church of Norway, 479 Main St., Norway, will host the “Fabulous Arts and Crafts Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19.

Gift and shopping needs can be fulfilled all the while supporting local artisans and crafters. Quilted, crocheted and sewn items, balsam soaps, scents, sprays and pet products, birdhouses and toolboxes, original artwork, photography, wooden plaques and woodworking, open-ended children’s items to include dollhouses, picnic baskets, dream catchers, twinkle light hand-painted bottles, pillows, snow globes, specialty boxes, vases, furniture, quilt raffle, holiday items and more will be on display for purchase.

Romance writers to meet

LEWISTON — The September meeting of the Maine Romance Writers will feature Jackie Horn, “Using the Myers-Brigs to Create Characters.” It will be held  beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the USM Lewiston Campus, 51 Westminster St., Room 103.

There will be a brown bag lunch and chat about writing at noon, followed at 1 p.m. by the writing workshop with Horn, which provides an overview of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, a psychometric tool designed to measure psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions, and will explore how to use MBTI to craft romance characters with individual personalities and character-driven conflicts.

Non-member guests attend their first meeting free.

PERU — The Peru Historical Society will host a work meeting at the Historical Society Building at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17.

Guides, Sportsmen’s Association to meet

OQUOSSOC — An update on Upper Dam construction will be the topic for the September meeting of the Rangeley Region Guides and Sportsmen’s Association. Brookfield Renewable Energy Group representatives Brian Smith, community relations manager, and Patrick McDonough, operations supervisor, will be the guest speakers at the Thursday, Sept. 17, meeting. The presentation will discuss the ongoing dam construction, fishing at the dam pool, and completion schedule for the project.

The monthly meetings are open to the public. Potluck dinner begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by a short business meeting and then the Brookfield presentation. The RRG&SA clubhouse is located on Old Skiway Road in Oquossoc.

Library to host self-publishing workshop

NORWAY — Norway Memorial Library will host a free workshop for authors interested in self-publishing their work from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17.

Jane Karker, owner and president of Maine Authors Publishing & Cooperative and Custom Museum Publishing Inc., will address ways to produce, publish and market books for self-published authors at an affordable price. This workshop will outline some of the options, both traditional and nontraditional, including local options. Participants will find out how to get the technical assistance they need and about the many types of organizations, printers and publishers that work with Maine authors.

RUMFORD — The Rumford Senior Citizens have canceled the trip to New York City, the lobster dinner on Monday, Sept. 21, and the luncheon on Monday, Sept 28.

Archivist to address Hebron Society

HEBRON — Hebron Academy archivist David Stonebraker will address the town’s Historical Society on the school’s archives history and access procedures at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Town Office, 351 Paris Road.
