PARIS — Police credit tips from social media in helping them nab a woman suspected of stealing money from the local animal shelter’s donation box at a gas station last week.

Shella Sessions, 29, of Paris, was given a summons on a charge of theft Tuesday, Paris Police Lt. Jeff Lange said. She is accused of stealing between $20 and $30 from Responsible Pet Care’s donation box at Doe’s Convenience Store/Gas Station at 183 Park St. The theft occurred Tuesday, Sept. 8, he said.

“We had received tips on the Facebook page, which led us right to her,” Lange said.

The department posted stills from store’s video camera to its Facebook page Monday. They included photos of a woman and the dark-colored, four-door sedan she was believed to be driving.

“She admitted to being in the store. She did not admit . . . to taking (the money),” Lange said.

Sessions will appear in court in Paris on Oct. 15.
