Irish Dancers offering classes

AUBURN — The area Irish Dancers are offering free classes every Monday at 6:30 p.m. in Room 102 at Edward Little High School throughout September to anyone interested in trying set and ceili dancing.

The dances are done to jig and reels and are similar to square and contra dancing. No prior dance experience is necessary, steps are taught as needed. All that’s required is a pair of comfortable shoes and a desire to have fun dancing to lively music.

Cribbage League announces winners

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League has announced the following winners of the matches at the Lewiston Memorial Armory from Sept. 10:

First place, Aaron Burke and Don Haley; second place, Gerry Therrien and Roger Labbe; third place,Arline Laplante and Dwight Webb; fourth place, Dick Dennis and Roger St. Pierre; and fifth place, Cecilia Treworgy and Andrea Metayer.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Thursdays at the Lewiston Armory at 9 a.m. Thursday.

French sing-along is Friday, Sept. 18

LEWISTON — Community members are invited to participate in the first French sing-along session of the season at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College, 51 Westminster St.

Les Troubadours will lead attendees in singing a selection of local Franco favorites. Providing musical accompaniment will be pianist Jeannette Gregoire.

Anyone who likes music is welcome to come join in for this fun event, whether they are Franco or not. Song books are provided so that even those who are not familiar with the songs or less-than-fluent in French can easily follow along.

Admission to the sing-along is free to all.

Knights of Columbus hosting bean supper

AUBURN — The Andy Valley Knights of Columbus, Council 8742, will hold a bean and American chop suey supper from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Sacred Heart Church.

The cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children 12 and younger. The supper includes hot dogs, coleslaw, bread, dessert and a beverage.

Auburn library hosting author

AUBURN — Auburn Public Library will host author Lisa Canino at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at 49 Spring St.

Canino is the author of “Rescued Recipes,” a culmination of a three-year culinary and literary journey that all began with the simple act of one woman tossing old handwritten recipes into a trash can. Among the pages of vintage and modern-day delights are stories and reminiscences of this stoic, funny and frugal woman whose spirit helped her granddaughter fulfill a dream.

Books will be available for purchase at this program.
