Hospital volunteers sought
FARMINGTON — Franklin Memorial Hospital has approximately 150 volunteers who help out in numerous hospital departments and affiliated organizations, but currently more are needed in two key areas.
According to Jodi Cordes, recruitment and volunteer services administrator, the areas most in need of volunteers presently are in the gift shop and staffing parking assistance. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer should contact Cordes at 207-779-2635.
The organization has more than 600 full-time employees. However, it could not do the work it does without the assistance of its dedicated volunteers, who contribute about 20,000 hours annually.
Bethel Historical Society Harvestfest Events
BETHEL — The Museums of the Bethel Historical Society will host several events during Harvestfest Saturday, Sept. 19, on Broad Street.
Events will include demonstrations and examples of rug hooking, book signings and cider-making.
Presenters and authors include include Catherine Newell, Judith Burger-Gossart, Jim Witherell and Emeritus Stanley Howe.
Book sale planned in Wilton
WILTON — The Wilton Free Public Library is offering a book sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Western Maine Enterprises (formerly the Bass Shoe factory), 128 Weld St.
The entrance is through the driveway just south of the Town Office.
Pricing is by donation, and all the proceeds help the library purchase new books.
Historical society displaying quilt
OXFORD — The Oxford Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25.
Kathy Sturdivant and Heidi Everett will display an Underground Railroad quilt and explain the meaning of the patterns on it used to guide people traveling north to freedom.
Refreshments will be served after the meeting. Guests and visitors are welcome.
Hunter Safety Course being offered
HARRISON — The Western Maine Fish & Game Club will sponsor a hunter safety course from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26 and 27. Registration is first-come, first-served, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 26.
The cost is $5 for the weekend. The class will be held at the Western Maine Fish & Game Club, 1026 Norway Road (Route 117). The clubhouse is located just past the Harrison Transfer Station.
Students 10- to 12- years-old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Students younger than 18 must have a parent’s signature on the registration form. Students must attend both days to pass course. Students are reminded not to bring ammunition or firearms to the class. Refreshments will be available.
