AUBURN — The garage attached to 2 Sheraton Ave. caught fire around 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The structure became engulfed in flames, but nobody was hurt.

According to the Auburn Fire Department Facebook page, firefighters were able to get to the scene quickly enough to save the house before the fire reached it, but the garage was damaged.

The house belongs to the Westhovens, a family of five, who were at their camp when the fire was active.

A neighbor, Brendan Fontaine, made a post celebrating and thanking the Auburn Fire Department for their help.

“We just had a fire on our street,” he wrote, “and within minutes of my call (firefighters) were here and isolated the fire to the garage and saved the house!! God bless our first responders!!! They are the best anywhere!”

The fire was knocked down by 5:30 p.m.
