Philip Herbert Bernier

1936-2015

Philip Herbert Bernier, 78, of Oquossoc, Maine died, Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015 at the Hospice House in Auburn with his loving family by his side.

Philip, or “Phil”, was born in Fitchburg, Mass. on Nov. 7, 1936. He resided in Marblehead, Mass. where he married his high school sweetheart, Judith Lewis on June 21, 1958. They later lived in Peabody, Mass. before moving to Oquossoc, Maine in 1979.

He started the “Four Seasons Café” over 30 years ago and also groomed snowmobile trails with his wife, Judy. In 1998 they became snowbirds and started spending the winter months in Florida. He was a hot rod and Nascar enthusiast. He loved Thanksgiving which was always at The Turkey Run in Daytona Beach with his close friends, Connie and Mike Akelian. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandsons whom he adored.

He is survived by his children, Brenda Mynks and her husband, Dean of Margate, FL, and Karen Landis and her husband, Adam of Ormand Beach, FL; two grandsons & friends, Benjaman Bernier Bliss and Nikolas Bernier Bliss; a brother, Bruce Kleiman of Steamboat Springs, CO; special friends, Debbie Bogardis and her two daughters, Karen and Kristen, Pete and Ann Wolzaik, Tim Small, Sam Centrella, Burt Anderson, Rose Collins, Buddy Gallant and his hot rod friends from NHRA, and many other special friends, as well as his beloved dog, Vicki.

He was predeceased by his wife, Judith.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at Waterside Cemetery in Marblehead, Mass. Cremation arrangements are in the care of Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Rd., Farmington, ME 04938. Alice E. Warren

1927-2015

Alice E. Warren, 87, died Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Androscoggin Hospice House, surrounded by her family.

She was born on Nov. 9, 1927 in Berlin, NH, the daughter of Pierre and Yvonne (Rousseau) Desjardins. She attended St. Rose of Lima Grammar School in Jay and Jay High School.

On April 7, 1947 she married Robert Warren at St. Rose of Lima Church. They made their home and raised their family on Knapp Street, Livermore Falls, later moving to Jay. Bob passed away May 2, 1977 after 30 years of marriage.

Alice worked for Bass Shoe Company in Wilton, retiring in 1983. Following her retirement, she moved to New Port Richey, FL, residing there for 25 years. She enjoyed sewing, baking, quilting, scrapbooking and crafting. She was an exceptional homemaker who took much pride in keeping a clean home.

She is survived by her children and spouses; Judy and Donald Labbe of Chesterville, Cynthia and Bruce Bonnevie of Livermore, Eddie and Sandy Warren of Wilton, Pamela and Richard Allen of Mexico, and Peter Warren of Jay. Grandchildren, Lisa Richards, Jason Labbe, Alison Bennett, Amanda Hreben, Bob Warren, Taylor Roy, Jessica Maas, Abbe Bonnevie, Lucas Allen, Elyse Kreger, Emma Allen, Devon McClaran, Katie Warren and Sam Warren, 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, a grandson Jarrett Dalessandro, a sister Yvette Cloutier, infant brother, Alexci Desjardins and longtime companion, Harold “Jud” Judkins. Charles Robert Lilja “Charlie”, 68, of East Wilton, passed in the early morning hours of Saturday Sept. 19, 2015, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington.

Born Jan. 3, 1947, in Farmington, he was the son of Enzio and Margaret (Cox) Lilja. He grew up in North Jay and as a little boy was referred to as the “terror of North Jay”. He was a graduate of Norwich Tech in Norwich, CT.

On June 27, 1964, he married Patricia Jean Ryan, “Poppy”, in Mystic Ct. Charlie was a draftsman at Electric Boat and designed submarines. He went on to work as a graphic artist at Thompson Associates in Windsor Lockes, CT. In 1972, he and his family moved to Maine where he accepted a position as a customer service representative for Knowlton McCleary in Farmington. He later worked at Franklin Printing and in 1998, was a rural route carrier for the U. S. Postal Service in Temple and Strong, retiring in 2007.

Charlie, a Maine native, was happiest went hunting, fishing or trapping or simply enjoying the Maine woods. He was a registered Maine Guide and often organized bear and hunting trips. He was a member of the Maine Chapter of the NRA. In addition to being an outdoorsman, he was also an accomplished craftsperson and enjoyed refinishing an old classic wooden boat called “Tinker Toy” as well as making his own cedar strip canoe. He was a “people person” who enjoyed serving his community and devoting special time to his family.

He served for two terms as a Selectperson for the Town of Temple, and was a long-time member of the Temple Fire Dept. He coached the Temple Tigers Baseball Team, helped with the 4-H Baby Beef Club, enjoyed his children’s ski races and baseball games and always looked forward to fun times at Christmas parties and summertime get-togethers.

In his free time, he relaxed by watching NASCAR, boxing, hockey games or the Patriots. Though his health was failing, he always enjoyed being in the company of his family and was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first great-grandbaby.

He is loved by his wife of 51 years, “Poppy” of East Wilton; three children: a daughter, Robin Pellerin and her husband, David of Fairfield; two sons: Michael Lilja and his wife, Cindy of New Sharon and his daughter, Shelby Lilja Byers and her husband, Jay; and Erik Lilja of Temple; a sister Judy Jewett and her husband, Clayton of North Jay; a brother-in-law, Roger Ryley and his wife, Pam of Mystic, Conn.;, several nieces and nephews.

He will be missed by his pets and his granddogs. He was predeceased by his parents.

Thomas Alan Tufts

Thomas Alan Tufts, 64, of Kingfield passed away Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015 at his home.

He was born Jan. 23, 1951 in Farmington the son of Wilfred “Joe” Tufts and Impi Tufts. He attended school in Kingfield and graduated from the University of Maine Portland/Gorham with a Bachelor of Science degree and was a racer on the school’s ski team. He had learned to ski as a youngster at neighboring Sugarloaf Mountain.

As a young man he began his building career with his brother Michael. He married Patricia Montgomery in 1978 in Kingfield. He had always enjoyed the great outdoors hunting, and fishing. This love he passed on to his son Michael as well as the game of golf. He played softball as a younger man. He also loved spending time at the Caribou Point camp at Chesuncock Lake.

He is survived by his wife Patricia; his son Michael Tufts and girlfriend Sabrina LoPizzo; his sister Suzanne DiBuono of Marlboro, Mass.; his brother, Michael N. Tufts and wife Crystal of Madison; several cousins, nieces, and nephews, and many close friends. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Jackie Gogan.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery in Kingfield Followed by a gathering at the Mountain Village Farm B&B 164 Main St. Kingfied, ME. Jacqueline Jeannette Haley

Jacqueline Jeannette Haley, 86, passed away on Sept. 17, 2015 at her son’s home in Phillips, with her family by her side.

She was born on Aug. 7, 1929 in Lawrence, Mass., the daughter of Edward and Bertha Anderson. Jackie was educated in the schools of Lawrence, Massachusetts. On Aug. 20, 1947, she married John E. Haley in Lawrence, Mass. For several years, Jackie worked as a stitcher for Converse Shoe in Andover, Mass.. She enjoyed gardening and reading. Jackie loved animals and spending time with her family.

She is survived by; her son, Jeffrey Haley of Phillips; her grandson, Sean Haley of Madrid; her two granddaughters, Tara Haley of Boston, Mass. and Heather Haley of Anson; her great granddaughter, Haley Lee of Anson; her sister Barbara Emerson of Bluffton, SC.
