1929 – 2015

READING, Mass. — GiGi Guilmette, 86, of Reading, Mass., died peacefully at home under hospice care on Wednesday, Sept. 16.

She was born April 26, 1929, in Lewiston, to Berthe (Lebel) Bilodeau and Gustave Bilodeau. GiGi is the beloved wife of the late Louis P. Guilmette, to whom she was married for 46 years.

She relocated with her husband to Sarasota, Fla., from the Lewiston-Auburn area in 1993 and moved to Reading, Mass., to be close to family in 2009.

A Lewiston High School graduate with the Class of 1946, she went on to the Auburn School of Commerce, in addition to completing courses from the University of Maine.

For many years, GiGi was a licensed real estate broker for Century 21 Guilmette Realty, followed by Millett-Potvin Realty. In Sarasota, Fla., she worked for 13 years as an administrative assistant at Sarasota Memorial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

GiGi’s civic accomplishments included voluntary positions with the Red Cross, the United Way of Androscoggin County and the YWCA. She also served as a past president and former trustee of Central Maine Medical Center, and was an active member of Maine Health Care Associates, in addition to being a life member of the Patronesses of St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and the Woman’s Hospital Association at CMMC.

She is survived by her children, Michele Kane and her husband, Thomas, of Reading, Mass., and Marc Guilmette of North Reading, Mass.; four cherished grandchildren, Darcy, Wesley, Matthew and Timothy; and one great-grandchild, Bailey. She is also survived by her sisters, Gabrielle Young and her husband, Richard, of Needham, Mass., and Theresa Pratt of Surprise, Ariz., in addition to two nieces and one nephew.
