PARIS — Oxford County commissioners Tuesday recognized longtime contractor Richard Bean Sr. of Otisfield for plowing the Oxford County Regional Airport for 45 years.

Bean, who was unable to attend the meeting, plowed the runways at the Oxford airport every winter since it was constructed in 1969-1970. During that time, he also was Otisfield road commissioner, an elected position he still holds after 34 or 35 years, Selectman Leonard Adler said.

Adler accepted the award on behalf of Bean, who is 82.

Commission Chairman Steven Merrill read a statement about Bean, saying, “His dedicated service to the county has been nothing short of exemplary, despite the monotonous nature of the job. Maintaining the runways, lights, apron and surrounding areas is a tedious, but necessary, job to keep the airport safe and operable, and Richard has devoted his best work year after year. The county appreciates his reliability and commitment to being where he was needed, when he was needed. His service will be greatly missed.”

A decorated cake depicting a runway and plow equipment was served to attendees at the recognition ceremony.
