Nearly 70 per cent of the housing in the Lewiston-Auburn-Lisbon area is 35 years old, or older. About 12.1 per cent of the total number of dwelling units (2,950) are dilapidated or lacking one or more plumbing facilities. While this percentage does not seem to be worthy of the area, it should be noted that in 1960, the figure was 18 per cent, and back in 1950, nearly 31 per cent — so there has been substantial improvement over the years.

If current plans materialize, Lisbon village may soon have a gazebo-bandstand. Contractors on Thursday removed the old bell tower from the former Lisbon Federated Church on Main Street. The church — and tower — were built in 1880. After learning that the tower was being taken down by the current owner of the former church building, Town Manager Michael Miller said the building’s owner Andy Durisko, was asked if the town could have the tower. Durisko, who was having the tower removed for safety reasons, had no objections. Miller met with Superintendent of Schools Williams. Konzal, and both agreed that the bell tower could be converted into a gazebo-bandstand and placed on the green at Lisbon Elementary School.
