Municipal government is best when it melds the absence of partisanship with the benefits of debate to provide pragmatic solutions.

Am I annoyed that Jonathan LaBonte’s day job is working for a governor with whom I very frequently disagree? Yes.

On municipal issues, do I sometimes disagree with LaBonte? Yes.

Do I believe that there is another individual with the passion and clarity of vision to effectively lead Auburn toward sustainable economic growth; a more walkable and livable downtown; construction of a new high school; and an enhanced sense of local pride in the next two years? No.

I am confident Jonathan LaBonte will be a strident advocate for Auburn on each of those issues, because he already is. I will vote for him on Nov. 3, and I will be debating with him for the next two years when we disagree.
