NEWPORT — After being shut out in the first half Saturday by winless but fired-up Nokomis, Mt. Blue exploded for three second-half scores and held on for a 24-14 Class B North football win.

Zach Meader ran for the game-tying touchdown in the third quarter, then caught a 34-yard scoring toss from Ryan Pratt to give the Cougars a 16-8 lead with 10 minute to go.

Mt. Blue is one of four teams battling for the top seed in the PTC playoffs at 5-1.

Andrew Haining scored for Nokomis with just over six minutes left, but Mt. Blue stuffed the two-point conversion to keep the lead.

Pratt then connected with Nate Pratt-Holt for another touchdown through the air to close it out.

Cody Rice’s 14-yard TD run supplied an 8-0 halftime lead for the Warriors.

Leavitt 20, Greely 14

CUMBERLAND — Leavitt took the lead with a 97-yard touchdown drive in the third quarter Saturday and ended its modest two-game losing skid in Class B South football with a 20-14 win over Greely.

Levi Craig capped the long march with a 14-yard touchdown run. Leavitt (4-2) missed the two-point conversion try and held a 14-8 advantage.

Craig scored again on a 4-yarder late in the third.

Billy Bedard caught a 25-yard TD pass from Craig in the first half. Greely (2-4) pounced on a Craig fumble in the end zone and pulled even 8-8 at the half.

Sam Peck ran 55 yards for a score to pull Greely within six in the fourth.

Fryeburg 37, Poland 21

FRYEBURG — Poland fell in a 22-0 hole Saturday and couldn’t recover, dropping a 37-21 Class C South football verdict to Fryeburg.

Patrick Jacques and Gawain Tibbetts each rushed for a touchdown for Poland (2-4), which also scored on a kick return.

Fryeburg (3-3) put two backs over 100 yards in the convincing win.
