MEXICO – The Police Department responded to 129 incidents over the past three weeks, including the following:

* Oct. 20: A resident reported receiving a phone call from a company stating that they would reward the resident with $9,000 if they sent some money.

“This is a new phone scam, and I’ve been advising those who receive the call to hang up when they get it,” Police Chief Roy Hodsdon said.

* Oct. 17 at 12:37 p.m.: A Granite Street resident reported someone stole a UPS package from their front steps. Police have suspects and are investigating.

* Oct. 15: A Roxbury Road resident reported being scammed out of a substantial amount of money after attempting to purchase a dog online. Hodsdon said the resident visited a website to buy dogs and was told to send a certain amount of money.

“After they sent the money, they would receive a call from someone else saying that they needed to send more money for the dog to be sent,” Hodsdon said. “After looking into the website, it was determined that it was a scam.”
