NEWRY — Town Administrator Loretta Powers announced at Tuesday’s selectmen meeting that she is resigning Dec. 31 and moving to Florida.
She held the job for 11 years.
“I’m ready for a change,” Powers said Wednesday morning. “Technically, it’s a resignation, not a retirement. The plan is to move to Florida. I have a resume all written up, and just have to put it out there.”
In other business at the meeting, Powers said Sandra Buchanan of Western Maine Transportation Services met with selectmen to ask if the town wanted more representation on the Mountain Explorer Committee.
The Mountain Explorer is a free public-transit program between Bethel and Newry that takes people to work, to Sunday River Ski Resort and to restaurants.
Powers said Brad Jerome, owner of the Bethel Inn and a resident of Newry, represents Newry on the committee.
“I had a selectman say that they would be interested in serving on the committee, so I need to email Buchanan again to see exactly what they’re looking for,” Powers said.
