1923 – 2015
MECHANIC FALLS — Gladys E. Emery, 92, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, at her home, surrounded by her loving family, after a prolonged illness.
She was born on Jan. 6, 1923, on Plummer Hill in Waterford, the daughter of Raymond and Grace Dearborn Millett. She attended a one-room schoolhouse at the top of the hill. She worked in the tannery in South Paris after leaving home. After marrying the love of her life, Johnnie Emery, she baby-sat children at her home for many years. She then worked at Gould & Scammon shoe shop until her retirement.
She is survived by children, Frances and Gary Cotton, Robert and Penny Emery, Faith and Ron Tirrell, John and Valerie Emery, and Oliver and Rose Emery, all of Mechanic Falls; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband John; granddaughter Theresa Renee Emery and many brothers and sisters. The family would like to thank hospice for their care of mom.
