LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 11, for Veteran’s Day, and Thursday and Friday, Nov. 26 and 27, for Thanksgiving.
The following activities are planned for the remainder of the month.
The Center will host Thistle Farms from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 13. Thistle Farms is a powerful community of women who have survived prostitution, trafficking and addiction, who employ more than 50 survivors through social enterprises which include a natural body care company, Thistle Stop Cafe, paper and sewing studio and global marketplace called Shared Trade.
From 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, the Center will host Wise and Strong Women Speak. Guest speakers for a public conversation include Becca Stevens, Regina Mullins and Anika Rogers of Thistle Farms.
On Thursday, Nov. 12, the nursing interns from the University of Southern Maine Lewiston-Auburn will lead a dance class. On Tuesday, Nov. 17, Chloe Giampaolo will provide a free workshop on forgiveness and techniques in dealing with toxic people. At 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, a Reiki session is available by sign-up.
This month, the Peasant Pantry Café features a delicious Italian one-pot meal, on Thursday, Nov. 12. Each month features a one-pot sustainable meal from a country. This month, the dish is Succa Y Faglioli, or “pasta and beans,” a meatless Italian dish. This meal is open to the public at no charge. Donations are welcome.
The regular end-of-month programs include: bingo, a clothing give-away on Thursday, Nov. 19, and the November birthday celebration at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25.
The Center’s fall hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays.
For a full calendar of events and full descriptions of all support groups, visit www.wisdomswomen.org. All women are welcome, programs are offered for free, and no appointments are needed. Oatmeal breakfasts are available daily and the Center has a shower available for use.
The Center continuously needs donated hygiene items to give away, with numerous requests each month. Needed are full-sized, unopened, basic items such as shampoo and conditioner, deodorant and lotion. Currently tampons and toothbrushes are not needed. Unopened smaller sample sizes are accepted for use in outreach packs.
The Center is also seeking volunteer applicants for Companions. The Companion role requires women who have a professional background in social work, teaching, nursing, chaplaincy or another related field. The commitment is a half-day weekly. Those interested should contact Executive Director Klara Tammany at 207-513-3922.
