HANOVER — More than 40 residents approved a $525,926 municipal budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year at the annual town meeting Tuesday evening.
Town Clerk Kelly Harrington said that the meeting lasted around two hours, and that the residents approved all 37 articles, including Article 6, which asked residents if they wished to change the positions of town clerk, town treasurer and tax collector to a single, appointed position with selectmen making the first appointment at the 2016 annual town meeting.
“Discussion on that particular article took up more time than the other articles, but eventually, they approved it,” Harrington said.
The article also stated that the person appointed in 2016 would have the titles of town administrator and town clerk.
The 2015-16 budget was $21,763 more than the previous year, with a majority of the increases coming from office expenses, county tax and solid waste disposal.
