LEWISTON — L/A Arts invites the public to a student gallery opening to kick off its new year of Arts in Education and celebrate Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.

Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday that brings people together to honor the lives of loved ones who have died. Lewiston Middle School students recently participated in an L/A Arts residency, through which they connected the visual arts with this holiday through traditional Spanish language studies. Professional art educator Natasha Mayers has partnered with lead Spanish classroom teacher Jennifer Goodine to lead students through the creation of art-shrines that pay tribute to student loved ones who have passed.

These art-shrines will be shared in a celebratory student gallery opening event from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, the Day of the Dead. Refreshments will be served.
