WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. — Prosecutors in Vermont say they’re still deciding whether to charge a log truck driver with negligence in an Interstate 91 crash that killed a Florida man in August.

Police say 54-year-old David Stefanik pulled his truck into a breakdown lane in Norwich because he had a flat tire. Police say Mason Morissette, of Woodstock, Maine, sideswiped the truck, killing Stefanik.

Morissette was cited into court to answer to a charge of grossly negligent operation of a vehicle with a fatality. Prosecutors haven’t filed formal charges.

Windsor County State’s Attorney Michael Kainen tells The Valley News his team is assessing the line of sight Morissette had before hitting Stefanik.

Morissette has told police he never saw Stefanik or hazard markers outside his truck. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.
