1940 – 2015

BUCKFIELD — Gail T. Hicks, 75, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday morning, Nov. 1, in her home, after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, who went home to be with her Lord and Savior.

Gail was born in South Paris on Oct. 1, 1940, the daughter of Paul and Florence (Gammon) Turner. She was educated in Buckfield schools and was a graduate of Buckfield High School. She married Donald H. Hicks on Jan. 18, 1964.

Gail had been employed as a bank teller, town clerk, bookkeeper and other clerical positions, but she will always be remembered as an amazing seamstress. Wherever she went, she was complimented on her beautiful blouses, jackets, pants and homemade purses. She made beautiful quilts for everyone she loved. She also made many dolls and clothes, stuffed animals, wall hangings and crafts of every kind. Her house, and her family’s houses, are full of the things that she made. “Talented” was the word to describe her. She loved to cook and was an avid reader as well.

Gail was loved by everyone she met and will be missed by so many.

She was a wonderful wife to Donald for 51 years; mother to daughters, Darlene (DeeDee) Williams and her husband, Tim, Deborah (Debbie) Fox and her husband, Mark, Darcy Wiley and her husband, Mike; and her son, Duane Hicks and his wife, Tina. She was a beloved grandmother to Holly Frey and her fiance, Andy Bosse, Heather Pulkkinen and her husband, Kevin, Lyndsay Denison and her husband, Phil, Adam Denney, Brittany Robertson and her husband, Kasey, Logan Denney, Christopher and Jonah Williams, Mickayla Wiley, Reilley Hicks, Hunter and Noah Wiley, and Hayley Sheldon. She was a great-grandmother to Christopher, Christian, Kevin, Corbin and Kinzie Frey and Cole, Cameron and Keegan Pulkkinen. Gail was so very proud of her family, and she blessed their lives in so many ways. Gail was also a best friend to many and a “sister” to Pauline.
