LEWISTON — Maine Romance Writers, a nonprofit statewide organization dedicated to supporting romance writers, meets monthly. The MRW November meeting begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, in Room 103 of the USM LAC campus, 51 Westminster St., Lewiston. The formal meeting is followed by an informal, bring-your-own bag lunch social for chat about writing. The speaker will begin at 1 p.m.

Workshop topic is “Word Choice.” Hannah Howell will explain the importance of words in telling a story, how one simple word can change the whole tone. Using the right words can make a scene shine. One wrongly placed word can steal the punch or change the direction. Word choice can enhance the tension or romance while using the wrong words can dim them. That is what Howell calls the Magic of Words. Her talk will include examples and handouts.

Non-member guests are welcome and encouraged to attend all or part of the meeting. First time guests are welcome to attend free of charge, but will be assessed a $5 program fee for subsequent visits. Anyone interested in writing fiction is welcome to attend.

Those interested in attending should contact Marianne at MaineRomanceWriters@gmail.com. Last minute attendees are always welcome.
