AUBURN — St. Philip’s Church will host its 41st Annual Christmas by the Lake Christmas fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, on Turner Road across from Lake Auburn.

Extended shopping hours will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, for any leftover items.

Among the many booths, shoppers will find woodcrafts, jewelry, quilted, sewn and knit items, gift baskets, baked goods, homemade candies, jams, jellies, balsam wreaths, Christmas decorations and crafts. In addition, there’s a children’s activity room, baked beans for eating in or take out and a lunch counter.

Another popular spot at the fair are the “hidden treasure” rooms. This year, one room will be reserved for upscale, more valuable items that will be reasonably priced for sale.

Another change in this year’s fair affects the silent auction, where blind bidding will be conducted. Articles will have a minimum bid amount displayed. Shoppers will fill out their bidding tickets indicating their bid, the maximum they would pay in the event of a tie, and deposit their tickets in a container. Bidding will close at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, with winners posted as soon as possible at the end of the fair Saturday. Items will need to be paid for and picked up that afternoon or Sunday between 10:30 a.m. and noon.

Many booths at Christmas by the Lake offer choice articles for raffle, and the large raffle will feature a first prize of $1,000; a second prize of $500 worth of gift certificates for Mac’s Grill in Auburn; and a third prize of a Christmas lap quilt made by the St. Philip’s quilting group.

Tickets cost $1 each, or $5 for a book of six. They will be available after the 9:15 a.m. Mass at St. Philip on Sundays before the fair as well as at the fair.

Tickets will not be mailed to parishioners. Those who want tickets may call Tina St. Pierre at 207-577-7373. The drawing will take place at the close of the fair on Saturday. Entrants do not need to be present to win.
