1968 – 2015

LITCHFIELD — Steve L. Labbe, 47, of Litchfield passed away of a heart attack in his home on Sunday, Nov. 8.

Steve was a lifetime resident of Litchfield and a 1986 graduate of Oak Hill High School. He was a member of Oak Hill High School’s first state championship football team in 1982.

Upon graduating, he went on to be a part of the Maine Army National Guard for six years. He became a master electrician, and ran a very successful business for many years, until the economy turned. In recent years, he was employed by Bath Iron Works as a leadman, as he would say, “building war machines to protect your ass.” Because of his drive, passion and work ethic, he was well-respected by all whom he worked with.

When not at work, Steve enjoyed spending time with his children, Garrett and Megan; the love of his life, Mary Beth; and his many family and friends. He also loved hunting and could be heard singing, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year,” as he was getting ready to head out to his parents’ house. He had a great love of snowmobiling and could tell you a few stories that might make you question his decision-making abilities! For many years, he was a part of Twin Motorsports Racing Team, where he was instrumental in helping the team be competitive to the point of qualifying and racing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, N.H.

He was a member of Litchfield Fire Department for several years, following a family tradition. A self-proclaimed grill master, he spent many hours perfecting his craft; his grill had a special place in his heart and driveway.

He touched the lives of many during his years as a coach for Oak Hill Youth Football. Dedicated to his former players, he could be seen cheering on the sidelines during their games throughout their high school careers. Steve’s presence in this world impacted many people. He will be missed my many.

He is survived by his parents, Stanley and Claire Labbe; his children, Garrett and Megan; his fiancee, Mary Beth Koza and her children, Zachary, Cameron, Marcus and Allison, all of Litchfield; his brother, Scott and fiancee, Heather, of Litchfield; his sisters, Michelle of Afton, Okla., and Nicole Gervais and husband, Luc, of Litchfield. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Justin, Ronni, Heather, Lyndsey, Jordan, Peter, Mckenzie, Cheyanne, Tyler and Sawyer; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, Clarence and Marguerite Larrabee and Emily Labbe.
