Lewiston Elks list activities

LEWISTON — Lewiston Elks 371 has announced upcoming events. 

Texas Hold’em will be played Friday, Nov. 13, in the banquet hall. Doors open at 5 p.m., and games start at 6 p.m.

It will hold Karaoke from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, in the grill room.

Honor Flight Maine will be at the Lodge Saturday, Nov. 14. The Elks request a $10 donation for Honor Flight from those who attend. 

A vendor and craft fair is planned from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15. Tables are still available.

Fall Quilting Class begins

MONMOUTH — The Fall Quilting Class will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays, at the Packard Activity Center under the United Church, 778 Main St.

The class is open to all who would like to quilt to learn, share ideas and show work. 

All are welcome to work on the pattern, a disappearing nine-patch with variations and Migrating Geese.

Bark for Life Nov. 15

AUBURN — Bark for Life of Androscoggin County will honor the care-giving qualities of canine best friends. Bark for Life is a noncompetitive walk for dogs and their owners to help raise money to fund the life-saving mission of the American Cancer Society.

The walk is planned from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, Nov. 15, in the Petco parking lot, 105 Mt. Auburn Road.

Auburn Library hosting WWII vet talk

AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library will welcome Thomas Bennett at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, to share a series of letters from his father sent back home during World War II in a program titled “Dear Mom: Around the world with the Air Transport Command during WWII.”

Relive the war experience of Sgt. Joseph A. Bennett, U.S. Army Air Corps, as he circumnavigates the globe during the final years of WWII.  His personal journey is recounted through the letters he wrote to his mother back home in Maryland and the photographs he took while serving on the back lines in Africa and India. 

The talk includes highlights of the role the USAAC Air Transport Command played during the war as well as general battle history of the areas where Bennett served.

Androscoggin County Republican Committee to meet

SABATTUS — The Androscoggin County Republican Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at the Sabattus Town Hall Meeting Room, 190 Middle Road.

The Caucus Planning Subcommittee will meet at 6 p.m., and the Executive Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m.

All county committee members and interested registered Republicans are encouraged to attended.

Lewiston Bridge Club winners

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners at the Lewiston Armory on Nov. 9 were: first, Rosemarie Goodwin and Paul Clement; second and first in B, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; third, Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; second in B, Donna Bartlett and Claire Lyons.

Winners on Nov. 10 were: first, Jeanine Kivus and Fred Letourneau; second/third tie, Marta Clements and Hazel Glazier with Patricia Garcia and David Lock; fourth, Jan and Vern Arey; second/third tie in B, Cindy and Bob Kirchherr with Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe.

Games are played at 9 a.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays in the Seniors’ Room at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave. A partner is always guaranteed, and all bridge players are welcomed.
