100 years ago, 1915
Ten deer were brought out from Upper Dam last week by the Lewiston hunting party, made up of John H. Whilte, Dr. Randall, Dr. Ness, Dr. Pendleton, L. S. Durgin, Thomas C. White, Albert H. Julia, John E. Kincaid and E. K. Bly. They camped at The Midway, the famous old camp, built by Seth Chandler and a company of Upper Dam fishermen years ago. They had four guides and a motorboat. Fun and good sport, plenty of game and evenings by the great stone fireplace in the Upper Dam House made the trip memorable.

50 years ago, 1965
The new branch store of Top Value Enterprises Inc., a national discount stamp redemption concern, is relocated and now open for business at the new location. Doors of the spacious 1190 Lisbon St., Lewiston, building were opened last week, and the official opening ceremony will take place later this week. Pierre M. Bouffard of Auburn, manager of the local TV stamp redemption center for the past five years, noted that the new store has about the same amount of floor space as at the previous location — 5,000 square feet — but is now a single-floor operation. The concern was formerly located at 70 Lisbon St.

Turner selectmen met with officials from Wales and Livermore, Monday night to discuss the possible elimination of rural police patrols in Androscoggin County. Selectmen from all three towns said they are getting little for the amount of tax money paid to the county and all opposed proposed cutbacks. Androscoggin County has the lowest number of rural patrol officers of Maine’s 16 counties, according to state Rep. John Nutting, D-Leeds.
