1940 – 2015
NORWAY — Judith Ann “Judy” (Nason) Major passed away Friday, Nov. 13, after suffering a stroke (she would want you to know that).
She was born April 28, 1940, in Howland, to Robert and Melida Nason. She was raised and schooled in Howland.
In 1961 she moved to Lewiston to live with her brother Richard and to find work. She worked for Bates Mill and in June of that year she met Jerry. They dated for three months and were married on Sept. 30, 1961. They spent 54 years together, living mostly in Oxford where they raised their three precious daughters, Johnna, Jeanna and Jodi.
During the years after the girls were in school, she worked for Cornwall Industries and Betsey’s Country store (a fun job). She then became one of the “hot lunch ladies” at the Rowe school in Norway for 17 years. She loved her work and especially loved all the kids.
She will be remembered mostly as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her girls and their families were her world.
She was always young at heart. She was a Girl Scout leader. She loved trips to Storyland and Gray Animal Farm and playing the Bumble Bee game. She loved putting together holiday gift bags for all of the grandchildren for every holiday. Each bag had gifts picked especially for each child.
She had a wicked sense of humor and a quick wit. She loved practical jokes. Sometimes it took you a minute or two to realize she had just gotten you. The family is going to miss her yummy cooking. She was famous for her chicken pie, ham roll-ups, spaghetti sauce and her candy.
She was a member of the South Paris First Congregational Church and a member of the Thalians. She was a devoted Christian and truly loved the Lord.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry; daughters, Johnna Major and Chris Anderson of Scarborough, Jeanna and Don Packard of Norway and Jodi and David Swasey of Oxford; her beloved grandchildren, Lindley and Lucas Lamontagne, Taylor and Hailey Edwards, Hannah Anderson, Nicholas Anderson, Audrey Swasey and Laura Swasey; great-grandchildren, Eli and Wesley Radcliffe; and her siblings, Richard Nason and Della Duffy, Linda Thibeau and Larry Hersey and Guy and Linda Nason.
She may be gone from this earth, but her love and spirit will live on through her family.
The family would like to express gratitude to Dr. Piker and all of the staff at Stephens Memorial Hospital. Online condolences may be shared with her family at www.oxfordhillsfuneralservices.com.
