Several local firms, along with the Interact Club of Edward Little High School, yesterday began moving of the statue of Edward Little from the Auburn Central School to new site near the new ELHS. Richard W. Shields of the G A. Peterson Co., said that the marking on the bronze top section of the statue shows that it was cast in Munich, Germany, in 1876, and markings on the granite base indicate that this granite section was assembled by West Brothers. The markings on the bronze section were at a height not in common view to the public. There are three main sections of granite and then the top section of bronze. Shields said it is estimated the granite sections weigh either 9 or 10 tons. By the use of special clamps and cables the statue was lifted by a crane off the pedestal and lowered to the ground. Shields said this was a somewhat “tricky” operation as the statue was top-heavy.

Local reservists spending Thanksgiving in the Arabian desert miss mostly snacks and small comforts, members of their families say. A few soldiers of the 619th Transportation Co., which has been in Saudi Arabia since the weekend, have already been able to call home. “I talked to Tim on the telephone Monday,” said Anita Joy of New Gloucester, wife of Sgt. Tim Joy. “He asked me to send him a transformer so they can use their coffee maker. They have a different electrical voltage over there. He also asked for Kool-Aid, and some of those little masks like carpenters use, to keep dust and sand out of their lungs.”
