BATH — On Friday, Dec. 4, concert-goers will find out what would happen if Neil Young, The Incredible String Band and Pink Floyd got together to sing some holiday tunes. The Slambovian Circus of Dreams perform A Very Slambovian Christmas at the Chocolate Church Arts Center, located at 804 Washington St., Bath. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.
What does Slambovian mean? Well it’s a state of mind, an energy shared with devoted fans, a spirit of musical collaboration or anything else.
Just the name of the band “The Slambovian Circus of Dreams” is something of a giveaway to describe a raucous folk rock band that is often described as a “Punk Classical Hillbilly Pink Floyd.” Founded in Sleepy Hollow in 1998, the New York state-based band, brings together string and wind instruments and accordion with vocals.
“A Very Slambovian Christmas” show has developed into a premier Slambovian event of the year. Drawing on a set list comprised of traditional Christmas songs with a twist, a sprinkling of original holiday tunes, and a generous helping of nontraditional musical fare, there will be something for everyone.
Equal parts Washington Irving and Woodstock, the band taps a broad palette of styles and entertains with an extensive instrumental arsenal (accordion, cello, mandolin, theremin).
Tickets are $20 advance and $24 at the door and can be purchased by calling the Chocolate Church box office 207-442-8455 or online www.chocolatechurcharts.org.
