RUMFORD — A local man survived a plunge into the Androscoggin River Wednesday night after he drove his car into the water along Route 2.

Police said Michael Eversen, 20, of Rumford, was driving east and apparently blacked out before his Subaru crashed into a guardrail and then slid down an embankment into a bog next to the river.

Eversen crashed on a streatch of Route 2 near Sunnyside Terrace.

Police said it appeared the cold water revived Eversen, who was able to escape the car and scramble back up to the guardrail.

He suffered cuts to his face but was otherwise uninjured, said Rumford police Officer James McLamb, who was investigating the crash later Wednesday.
