PARIS — The First Congregational Church at 17 East Main St. has invited the community to participate in the Advent season that begins Sunday, Nov. 29, and continues through Christmas.

“Advent provides a most compelling way to view the terrorist attacks that are currently plaguing the world,” said the Rev. Don Mayberry, pastor at the church. “While terrorists want to promote fear and darkness, the Advent season is about hope and light.”

Scripture refers to “the light that shines in the darkness that the darkness cannot overcome.” He went on to say that “this juxtaposition between fear and darkness and hope and light will be a recurring theme in sermons throughout the season of Advent as we let the message encourage us to be hope-filled people.”

First Congregational Church is wheelchair accessible with an elevator in the rear. Services are broadcast live on AM 1450 and AM 780, and sermons are posted on South Paris Congregation’s Facebook page. Sunday worship and Sunday school are at 10 a.m.
