LEWISTON — Throughout the month of December, Alley Cats L/A and the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society are dedicated to finding suitable homes for the communities’ many feral cats. Feral cats, either abandoned or born without human contact, may be seen in your neighborhood and are generally wary of humans.

The Society’s Alley Cats L/A Program traps, neuters, and returns these feral cats to their colony to live out their lives without multiplying. For those cats that have no established colony to return to, the program finds them suitable homes. Homes ideal for feral cats should have dry, out of the wind and weather shelter and a willingness to provide daily food and water. Prior to placement, all cats are spayed/neutered, assessed for health problems, wormed, vaccinated for rabies and distemper and treated for fleas. In return adopters can be guaranteed 24/7 poison-free pest control.

The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society provides a safe haven for more than 4,500 sick, homeless and abused animals in the greater Androscoggin area every year. The primary support for the shelter comes from fundraising events and donations of concerned citizens.

The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is located at 55 Strawberry Ave. in Lewiston. For more information or to learn more about Alley Cats L/A, call the shelter at 783-2311 or visit the website: www.SavingPetsInMaine.org. Join them on www.facebook/GAHumane.
