NEWRY – The Board of Selectmen voted Tuesday evening to allow Fire Chief Bruce Pierce to acquire a forestry truck from the Maine State Forest Service, Deputy Town Clerk Kelly Scott said Thursday.
Scott said Pierce told the board Tuesday evening that the Maine State Forest Service would allow the town to acquire a five-ton, 1990 forestry truck free of charge.
“The only thing is that the town would have to refurbish the truck within six months,” Scott said.
She said the board voted to allow Pierce to pick up the truck.
“He’s going to submit a budget detailing what the repairs are, and the board will review it before their budget process next year,” Scott said.
In other business, the board had no updates on efforts to construct a new veterans memorial outside the Town Office.
“It’s been busy at the Town Office as of late, so there hasn’t been much movement with the memorial,” Scott said.
Board Chairman Gary Wight said at a previous meeting that the town has memorial plaques recognizing veterans of World War II, but it doesn’t list their names or the names of those who served in other wars.
The plaques are outside the Town Office.
