NEW GLOUCESTER — AMVETS Department of Maine have elected a new commander, Jerry Dewitt of New Gloucester. He will serve as the commander for 2015 and 2016.

Dewitt assumed the duties after appointment of the executive council held at AMVETS Post 6 in New Gloucester on Dec. 12. He also serves as the chairman for the L/A Veterans Council and the co-chair of the L/A Maine Military Community Network.

Dewitt is a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Franco American War Veterans, Viet Nam Veterans of America and the Cold War Veterans. He is employed at Tri-County Mental Health Services in Lewiston as veterans outreach project coordinator.
