PORTLAND — Portland Symphony Orchestra will make winter a little brighter with the endless summer harmonies of the Beach Boys this January. Guest conductor, Jeffrey Reed, recreates the hits of The Beach Boys in a 50th anniversary tribute to “Pet Sounds,” the band’s eleventh studio album. Concerts will be held at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan.9,  and at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 10, at Merrill Auditorium.

Reed’s pops programming has been recognized nationally, with concerts that recreate the soundtracks of pop music’s greatest decades. From Elvis to The Beatles and, as PSO audiences will be treated to, The Beach Boys, his concerts celebrate anniversaries and popular music milestones from some of music’s brightest talent.

The first half of the concert will run through “Pet Sounds” live in its entirety, opening with “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” and leading audiences through the eclectic album one song at a time. Songs will feature the use of bicycle bells and other unconventional instruments — the original “pet sounds.” The second half of the concert covers the band’s greatest hits, including favorites like “Kokomo,” “Surfin’ USA,” “Barbara Ann,” and “California Girls.”

Tickets to the concert are $25 to $75 and are available through PortTIX at (207) 842-0800 or www.porttix.com. Phone and internet orders are subject to per-ticket handling fees. Tickets may also be purchased in person at the Merrill Auditorium box, 20 Myrtle St.
