WARREN (AP) — The leader of Maine’s Roman Catholics is celebrating part of Christmas Eve at a prison.

Bishop Robert Deeley of the Diocese of Portland is visiting the Maine Correctional Center in Windham to celebrate Mass with inmates. Later, he was to celebrate Mass at an assisted living center in Portland before midnight Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

Deeley says one of the works of mercy is to visit the imprisoned. He says those inmates who join him will know that they are accepted as a part of the church.
