WEST PARIS — The First Universalist Church of West Paris has announced its January worship services. Services begin at 9 a.m. on Sundays and are are provided by the Rev. Fayre Stephenson, guest speakers, and the worship service committee. They are followed by refreshments. All are welcome.

Jan. 3: “The Search for Truth and Meaning” — Through the fourth Unitarian Universalist Principle, people affirm and promote a free and responsible search for truth and meaning. The quest is sacred and is an act of religious devotion. The church will explore the mysteries that speak through intuition and experience — but also through tradition, community, conflict, nature and relationships.

Jan. 10: “Loving Each Other, Loving the World” — As Unitarian Universalists, the church has been called to stand on the side of love, to be the love, even to love the hell out of the world. But are all types of love the same? What is the connection between loving the world and loving in a more interpersonal level? The service is led by Sean Neil-Barron, who will become an ordained minister in the fall of 2016.

Jan. 17: “Where Do We Go from Here” — The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s last book, “Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community,” is as timely today as when he wrote it in 1967. Using his great books as text, this service will be a consideration of today’s civil rights challenges.

Jan. 24: “The Velveteen Rabbit: A Story of the Possibilities of Love” — Wear and tear, love, suffering, transition and a warm look at the mystery of transformation, this service will be led by the Rev. Fred Jordan.

Jan. 31: “Speaking Truth to Power” — Speaking truth to power is perhaps the oldest and, certainly, one of the most difficult of ethical challenges because to do so entails personal danger. At this service, the church will explore some of the truths people fear speaking and how to overcome fear.
