Next Monday, the Lewiston Theatre will cease to be. Instead, we will have the Union Square Theatre, which will be the same playhouse with a new name. Other changes will take place at the same time in the recently built theatre. The three shows a day policy which has been in force since the Keith interests took over the booking privileges of the Lewiston will change to the two show a day plan of the big time vaudeville houses, this will permit the management to get acts here that refuse to play more that two shows a day.

Santa visited Lewiston-Auburn homes on Christmas leaving gifts for young and old, but he had a special helper in some of the area towns that failed to put in an appearance in the Twin cities. The stork, bearing is own special type of gifts, stayed out of town on Christmas Day and left Santa on his own. Christmas locally saw the opening of presents that delighted and surprised the excited recipient but there were no bundles of joy delivered to Lewiston or Auburn families.

Over the next four-to-six weeks, about 600 Lewiston residents will be asked to participate in a housing needs assessment survey being conducted by the city as a tool for planning. The survey will be conducted in two parts, according to Sylvia Hudson, City Housing/Community Development Planner. One part will focus on two neighborhoods, Little Canada and the “mill house district,” which includes the areas of Bartlett, Bates, Knox and Park streets. That part of the survey will include visits by city inspectors who will determine whether the properties meet standards or are substandard. The question portion of the survey will be done by telephone. The second part of the survey, which will be conducted entirely over the phone, will be citywide in its scope.
