NEWRY — Sunday River Ski Resort will host its third annual Red Bull Frozen Rush on Jan. 7 and 8. The popular event pits professional truck drivers in head-to-head races using off-road trucks.

The event was first held in 2013 and included eight drivers. It attracted nearly 10,000 spectators and aired on the afternoon of the Super Bowl, while the following year, the race was filmed by NBC and televised two months later.

For the 2016 race, Red Bull will broadcast the entire race live on the Web, starting at noon Friday. The webcast can be found at redbull.tv on the Red Bull’s TV player.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday with qualifying races on South Ridge.

The main race will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday on South Ridge, followed by an awards ceremony at 1:30 p.m., and an autograph session at 2:30 p.m.

The racers for the 2016 event are reigning champion Bryce Menzies, 2014 champion Ricky Johnson, Scott Douglas, Rob MacCachren, Carl Renezeder, RJ Anderson, Chad Hord, Johnny Greaves and CJ Greaves.
