CUMC hosting bean, casserole supper

LEWISTON — The Calvary United Methodist Church will host its monthly baked bean and casserole supper Saturday, Jan. 9.

Serving time will be 4:45 p.m. at the Bartlett Street Garden entrance.

Cost of the meal is $7.50 for adults and $3 for children.

The menu will include assorted baked beans, hot dogs, biscuits, casseroles (including vegetarian), salads and homemade pies.

LEWISTON — The Holy Cross Knights of Columbus Council 12652 will have its monthly Take-Out Bean Supper Saturday, Jan. 9, instead of the first Saturday of the month due to New Year’s. It will be held from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at Holy Cross church hall at 1080 Lisbon St.

The menu will include the famous baked beans with coleslaw, buns, ham, bologna and desserts. Diners can purchase package specials ranging from $8 to $10 or “a la carte” with prices to meet each budget. Orders may be phoned in after noon on Jan. 8.

The Maine Genealogical DIG forms

GRAY — A new group is forming, The Maine Genealogical DIG (DNA Interest Group), to assist people in using and understanding genetic genealogy and DNA testing. The mission is to help people decide who to test, when to test, why to test and how to work most efficiently with the results. DNA results are to be used as a tool along with traditional research.

The group will meet the second Saturday of the month beginning at 10 a.m. to noon on Jan. 9 at the Gray Public Library, 5 Hancock St.

Meetings are free and open to everyone and will include volunteer presentations covering all aspects of DNA testing, group discussions, sharing and working together to learn more about using DNA.

The group is starting with the help of Nancy Milliken Mason, manager of the Maine Genealogical Project on FTDNA.

LEWISTON — The Twin City Council 160 of the United Commercial Travelers of America will hold a dinner meeting at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Chickadee Restaurant.

Honey Bee Club to meet

PARIS — The Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Oxford County Extension Center, 9 Olson Road.

Club members should bring their beekeeping gizmos and gadgets for demonstration.

There will be a brief meeting for nominations and election of officers.

Community luncheon Jan. 9

FARMINGTON — Old South First Congregational Church will serve its monthly free community luncheon at noon on Saturday, Jan. 9.

The menu for this month includes Stan’s “regionally famous” American chop suey, garlic bread and cake.

Delivery service will be available in Farmington. Residents interested in meal deliver may contact 207-778-0424 during the week or 207-778-4438 on the morning of the luncheon.

PARIS — The Paris Fire Department Auxiliary will host a public supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Paris Fire Department on Western Avenue.

The supper will feature ham, potatoes, veggies, macaroni and cheese, salads, bread and homemade desserts. 

Cost of the meal is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 4 to 12 and free for children 3 and younger.

Rabies vaccination clinic Jan. 9

JAY — A rabies vaccination clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Jay Town Office, 340 Main St.

Cost of the rabies vaccine is $10 each. Canine and feline distemper vaccines will be available, as well as flea and tick preventives and microchips. Nail trimming can be provided for $5.

All rabies vaccination certificates will be valid for one year unless the previous year’s rabies certificate is presented at the time of vaccination.

The clinic is hosted by Franklin County Animal Shelter.

Daughters of Isabella to meet 

RUMFORD — St. Timothy’s Circle No. 504, Daughters of Isabella, will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the Holy Savior Church Hall.

Chairpersons for the meeting will be Marie Boudreau and Rita Thorne. Committee members will be Debbie Laurinaitis, Sharon Rickards, Noella Taylor and Dorothea Cayer.

The following members will be congratulated on their 25 or more years of membership with the Daughters of Isabella:

Patricia Hopkins, 56 years; Theresa Vaillancourt, 31 years; Alfreda Kaubris, 62 years; Pauline Dawson, 70 years; Joan Lepage, 47 years; Rita Perry, 49 years; and Priscilla Draper, 50 years.

The Daughters congratulated Alex Gorham for winning the Thanksgiving food raffle drawn on Nov. 21 at the Holy Savior Craft Fair.
