LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women has announced its events for January.
Quit smoking: 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Jan. 5, Maureen Higgins from The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing will provide resources and information to help quit smoking in the new year.
Peasant Pantry Café: This month, the Peasant Pantry Café will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7. Each month, a one-pot sustainable meal from a different country is featured. This month, the dish is pad Thai, a famous Thai dish that’s mildly sweet and tangy with stir-fried rice noodles with egg, bean sprouts, chopped peanut and scallions. This meal is open to the public at no charge, and donations will be accepted. Prepping for Peasant Pantry will be at noon Tuesday, Jan. 5.
Make friends: 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Jan. 12. Participants will learn and talk about how to make good friends and keep them with Chloe.
What’s Cooking in January: Wednesday, Jan. 13, will feature winter salads. & Tuesday, Jan. 19, will be determined.
Intentions, not resolutions: 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Jan. 14. The center will explore the book “Imagine a Woman in Love with Herself,” helping participants create New Year affirmations and intentions, not resolutions.
Clothing giveaway: Throughout the day, Thursday, Jan. 28.
Regular end-of-month programs
Bingo: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26.
Art Van: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27.
Birthday celebration: at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27.
The Center’s fall hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays.
The center will be closed Monday, Jan. 18, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
All winter, the Center will close when local schools are canceled due to inclement weather.
For a full calendar of events and full descriptions of all support groups, visit www.wisdomswomen.org. All women are welcome, programs are offered for free, and no appointments are needed. Oatmeal breakfasts are available daily and the Center has a shower available for use.
The Center continuously needs donated hygiene items to give away, with numerous requests each month. Needed are full-sized, unopened, basic items such as shampoo and conditioner, deodorant and lotion. Currently tampons and toothbrushes are not needed. Unopened smaller sample sizes are accepted for use in outreach packs.
The Center is also seeking volunteer applicants for Companions. The Companion role requires women who have a professional background in social work, teaching, nursing, chaplaincy or another related field. The commitment is a half-day weekly.
