FARMINGTON — A Rumford man is accused of setting fire to a shed Dec. 20 near the home of Daniel Williams on Route 43.
James Bigos, 53, was arrested on a felony charge of arson Jan. 1 by Jeremy Damren, an investigator with the state fire marshal’s office, according to a news release.
No one was injured.
Williams, his girlfriend and her college-age daughter were awakened by a fire that was reported at about 1:13 a.m.
The shed burned to the ground and destroyed contents that included an all-terrain vehicle. Williams used a garden hose to slow the fire down and keep it from spreading to the house about 40 feet away, Temple fire Chief Dave True said previously.
State fire investigators were assisted by state and Rumford police.
Justice Lance Walker set bail for Bigos at $1,500 cash Monday, with conditions that included no contact with the victims and that he not go to Temple.
Walker appointed Luann Calcagni as Bigos’ attorney.
Defense attorney Christopher Berryment told the court that it was a weak case based on a video that shows a man at the building, but does not depict who. He asked for $600 cash bail.
Assistant District Attorney Joshua Robinson asked for $25,000 cash bail.
