1938 – 2015

BOSTON, Mass. — Arthur F. Picard Jr., 77, a resident of Anson Road, Leeds, died on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 22, at the VA Boston Healthcare facility with family at his side.

He was born in Lewiston on June 15, 1938, a son of Arthur F. Picard Sr. and Blanche G. Labbe. He was educated in local schools, graduated from St. Dominic High School and remained a lifelong resident of this community.

He was a military veteran, having served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1960. Arthur worked locally in shoe manufacturing, first spending several years at Lown Shoe and later for many years at Supreme Slipper, until his retirement.

Arthur was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Marie, spending time at Moosehead Lake and good times spent at family get-togethers. As his children were growing up, they spent many summer days at Tacoma Lakes and Thomas Point Beach. Arthur was a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

He leaves behind his wife, Marie Picard, whom he married on Oct. 3, 1991, of Leeds; two daughters, Rachel Picard and fiancé, Giles, of Auburn and Tina Pierre and her husband, Craig, of Sabattus; two sons, Michael Picard and his companion, Dawn, of Greene and Philip Picard and his wife, Nancy, of Poland; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a stepson, Raymond Lamonthe of Sabattus; a stepdaughter, Linda Neilsen of Arkansas; four step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Arthur was predeceased by three sisters, Constance Levasseur, Doris Picard and Lorraine Laganiere.
