100 years ago, 1916
Cortell-Markson Co., are doing a fine business at their up-to-date store, 117 Lisbon street, practically doubling their trade every month. Although they have only been in business about a year and a half their quarters amply large at first, are already proving too small. To accommodate their ever-growing trade they have decided to increase their floor space by taking out the alteration room which occupies the whole of the rear of the store. Not only will this give a great deal more room but the three large windows thus brought into the store proper will furnish a splendid light.

50 years ago, 1966
Radio Corporation of America, one of the world’s largest electronics firms, will open a Lewiston division in the sprawling former Raytheon Company plant on the Lisbon Road, it was learned Friday night. The new industry will provide several hundred jobs and have substantial affect on the economy of the Lewiston-Auburn area. Louis C. Sarelas, director of the Lewiston Department of Economic Development, reported, “I am happy to announce that the board of directors of the Radio Corporation of America today voted to purchase the Raytheon facility. On Monday, at noon, a luncheon-reception and press conference will be held at Steckino’s Restaurant for the purpose of introducing company executives and announcing details of the company’s operation in Lewiston.

If there were a million-mile club for newspaper deliverers, Gary Webb of Mechanic Falls would qualify twice over. On Monday, as he and his wife, Glenda, who also delivers the Sun-Journal/Sunday, totaled the route distance they have driven during the last 17 and 1/2 years and came up with an estimate of 2,145,680 miles. “This must be some kind of record,” Gary Webb said as he finished his morning rounds, depositing Sun-Journal copies in yellow boxes from Auburn to Livermore Falls.
