AUBURN — The Wellspring Multifaith Group of Lewiston-Auburn will host a presentation on Hinduism by Dr. Umesh Chandra Sarma from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at the Grace Lutheran Church fellowship hall, 727 Summer St.
It’s the third in a series of informal public educational talks, which are intended to promote better understanding and appreciation of the major world faiths as experienced through the eyes of Mainers.
Questions and discussions are encouraged.
Chandra Sarma was born in London on March 27, 1966, and attended Northumberland Park School. He attended Edinburgh University Medical School, graduating in 1989 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. He trained in internal medicine and became a member of The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh MRCP (UK) in 1997.
Later that year he emigrated to the U.S. for residency training in radiology, which he completed at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass., in 2002. A year of fellowship training at Rhode Island Hospital in cross-sectional imaging followed, and in 2003 he settled in Maine as an attending radiologist at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston. In 2006, he became part of Spectrum Medical Group and continues to practice in the radiology department in St. Mary’s as well at other radiology departments within Portland and surrounding areas.
He lives in Auburn with his wife, Michelle, their golden retriever, Poppy, and cat, Velvet.
The group is also inviting those interested in promoting goodwill among people of all faiths to join its membership. Membership information will be available at the presentation.
