Looking in better shape than a year ago, Boss Bill Carrigan, manager of the world champion Red Sox, established his headquarters at Owner Lannin’s offices at Forest Hills yesterday. Never has the “Sage of Lewiston” appeared so well, and when asked for his health recipe, he said: “I have been having fun at my camp just outside or Lewiston. I went down home at the close of the world series and I have not stirred from there until now. I found plenty to keep me busy, and as for baseball, almost forgot it, with the exception of my correspondence with President Lannin and what I read in the papers. Doing away with the Federal league is going to help all around, for it will mean better ball in the big leagues.

Seven Auburn Highway Department plows had to be pulled back on the highway late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, as drifting snow and an almost complete lack of visibility resulted in the vehicles going off roads. The AHD reported that because of the three to four foot drifts resulting from the blinding storm, combined with the limited visibility, drivers were unable to determine in many places the exact road location, and wound up with the heavy vehicle driving off the road. In each case, the heavy duty AHD wrecker was put into service to return the vehicles to the roadway so they could continue plowing operations. AHD crews put in 16 consecutive hours on plowing and road clearance operations, starting at noon Saturday and continuing through to 4 a m. Sunday.

Androscoggin Home Health Services is offering an expanded Maternal and Child Health and Pediatric Nursing Program for its clients, says MCH-P pediatric supervisor Barbara Gervais. Working under a team concept instead of separately, the staff consists of eight nurses each carrying a case load ranging from 25 to 35 patients of varying types, added Julie Weeks, manager of children’s services. “The maternity team has recently begun to take off,” said Gervais. “We’re able to see people in the home and prevent long-term hospitalization in many cases.”
