1917 – 2016

RUMFORD — Pauline E. Dawson, 98, formerly of Harlow Hill Road, Mexico, passed away on Friday, Jan. 8, at the Rumford Community Home.

She was born in Rumford on Dec. 26, 1917, a daughter of John and Christine (Cyr) Knauer. Pauline was educated in Mexico Schools and was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of 1935.

She was employed for several years with First National Bank in Rumford and Mexico and then at Oxford Paper Company as a payroll clerk in tech specialties. Pauline was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. Pauline was a longtime volunteer for the Democratic Party and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and the Mothers Club.

Surviving are her son, John E. Dawson and companion, Brenda Nickerson, of Rumford; daughter, Sheila D. Hill and husband, Jimmy, of Longview, Texas; three sisters, Myrtle Milledge of Rumford, Geraldine Burns of Rumford, Janet Hamann of South Paris; six grandchildren, Christopher Gallant and wife, Tracy, of Liberty City, Texas, Kimberly Gallant of Longview, Texas, Eric Mulkern and wife, Shelly, of Chillicothe, Ohio, Dawn Maceda and husband, Michael, of Phillips, Brian Dawson and wife, Tania, of Norridgewock, Aaron Dawson of Mexico; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Everett; sisters, Frances Ronan and Barbara Kelly.
