Once again, Gov. Paul LePage has proven he has his head in the sand. Drug dealers can be put in jail from now until the cows come home, but as long as there is a demand and a buck to be made, someone else will step up to the plate.

There are no re-habs in Maine. People who want to get well have no resources. Nothing. He is denying funding for a 10-bed re-hab? We need a dozen or more.

As a child, no one says, “Gee, when I grow up I want to be a drug addict.” Life happens.

As far as expecting doctors to be held accountable… do we blame the manager of a convenience store for the drunk who buys his booze, drives off and kills someone? I know a dozen people, one dying of liver cancer, who cannot get pain medication because their doctors are afraid to give it out.

I do not know the answer to this nightmare, but one thing I do know — the people who want and need help have nothing available in Maine.
