FARMINGTON — The Planning Board approved a site review application Monday for a fireworks retail store on Route 2.

Pyro City Maine owner Steven Marson is planning to open a seventh fireworks store in the former Goodwin Well and Water Services building at 696 Farmington Falls Road, he said last month. He is purchasing the building and expects to open the store by late February or early March.

The plan was presented to the board Monday by the general manager, board Chairman Clayton King said.

The company is installing a fire suppression system and outside security cameras.

“They seem to be well prepared,” he said.

The stores are set up to certain specifications, many required by fire departments, including how much product is on hand and distances between them, King said.

No abutters attended the meeting.

Marson said he liked the site because it is on the outskirts of town with space between properties and plenty of parking.

The board was told that clerks check identification because buyers have to be at least 21 years old.

Other Pyro City Maine stores are located in Winslow, Windham, Manchester, Ellsworth, Edgecomb and Presque Isle.
