1925 – 2016
NORWAY — Phyllis L. Welch, 90, of Poland passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, at Norway Center for Health and Rehabilitation.
She was born in Auburn on July 16, 1925, the daughter of Edward C. and Marion A. O’Connor Bartlett. She graduated from Mechanic Falls High School. She married Leon M. Welch on March 30, 1942.
Phyllis was mostly a stay-at-home mom on Johnson Hill for her seven children, but she did work as a waitress at Poland Spring Inn and Lobster Land Restaurant.
She was very devoted to her family and was the family historian. She was a great shot and a good deer hunter. Phyllis was a member of the Busy Bees in Poland for more than years, and the Poland Snow Travelers. She loved animals, snowmobiling, country music, especially Vince Gill, and she was an avid photographer.
She is survived by her children, Joan Wilfong and husband, Gary, of Colorado, Pamela Jean Hodenberg of Bridgton, Terry Plummer and husband, Tom, of Casco, Janice A. Whittemore and husband, Melvin, of Norway, and Rodney S. Welch and wife, Annette, of Mechanic Falls; daughter-in-law, Clelie Welch; a sister, Sandra Tyrell; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband; two sons, Terrence Welch and Bradford Welch; three brothers; and two sisters.
