Daughters hold first meeting of 2016
JAY — The Daughters of Isabella Circle 677 of St. Rose of Lima Church held its first business meeting of 2016 on Jan. 13.
Christmas cards were read, and members were asked who would like to give a reading for the Stations of the Cross on Friday, Feb. 12. Anyone wishing to say a reading should call the chancellor.
Get-well cards were sent to Daughters who were sick in December, and three sympathy cards were sent. There was one application for membership.
It was mentioned that a baked bean supper will be held Saturday, March 5, at the Parish Hall. The meeting came to an end at 8:15 p.m.
Evening will be full of tall tales
PHILLIPS — “True Stories and Tall Tales,” an evening of food, fun and laughter, will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at Phillips Area Community Center, Depot Street.
Bring a dish to share or a $5 donation.
Featured guest storytellers will be Winona Davenport, Tom Skolfield, Doug Dunlap, Roger Lambert, Karen Pease and Niilo Sillanpaa.

Food pantry open on Tuesdays
RANGELEY — The Ecumenical Food Pantry for the Rangeley area is open from 10 a.m. to noon every Tuesday.
The food pantry is located in the undercroft of the Church of the Good Shepherd, 2614 Main St.
Meal, auction to help Special Olympics
JAY — A ham dinner and auction to benefit Special Olympics will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at AMVETS Post 33, Route 4.
The meal will include potatoes, baked beans, gumbo, turkey soup, fish chowder, chop suey and desserts. Donations will be accepted for dinner.
Auction and drawings will start at 5:30 p.m.
Otisfield Soup and Chowder Fest
OTISFIELD — The East Otisfield Free Baptist Church will hold its yearly Soup and Chowder Fest from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at the church.
The menu will include pea soup, corn chowder, fish chowder, clam chowder, garden patch chowder, kielbasa soup and chili. Rolls, biscuits, beverages and desserts will also be served. All food is homecooked.
The East Otisfield Free Baptist Church is on Rayville Road off Route 121. The meal is free, but donations are accepted to support the church’s food pantry.
‘Sing ’til Spring’ concert for families
FARMINGTON — “Sing ’til Spring!,” a family concert and sing-along led by singers, songwriters and guitarists Martin Swinger and Matt Loosigian will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, in the Emery Arts Center, University of Maine at Farmington.
Sponsored by the Arts Institute of Western Maine, the family show will bring the audience along for a ride with call-and-response songs, participation and sing-alongs.
Songs will include “Earthworm Dance,” “Hungry for the Sun,” “Do Not Bottle Me” and”Coming ‘Round the Mountain.”
Swinger has received many awards, and Matt Loosigian, founder of Earth Jams, has been touring and teaching children for six years. He writes songs about ecology and “being green.”
There will be refreshments, plus a “surprise” for the children. Cost is $10 for adults, free for children 18 and under and students with ID. AIWM is an affiliate of UMF. FMI: 207-778-3722.
