The Litchfield Fire Department dedicated its new fire station to Walter “Red” Cook Jr. at an open house Saturday. Fire Chief Stanley Labbe told the crowd of about 30 people that the dedication of the Purgatory Village station recognized Cook’s “over 30 years of distinguished service to the fire protection needs of the town.” Cook joined the volunteer department as a truck captain soon after moving to Litchfield 36 years ago. “I appreciate this very much,” Cook said after receiving a plaque and a key to the new building.
